The Tragedy of “Infinity Train” – A Video Rant

I made this video with the assistance of a friend (who appears at the beginning.) I’ve been frustrated about the lack of news regarding Infinity Train and I thought maybe I could reach more people through YouTube. I’ve worked with my friend on a few other videos on her channel – so please check out the others too.

I’d appreciate it, if you could all watch and let me know what you think. I’ll be making more in the future and I want to get better!

  1. I really do emphathize with your viewpoints and opinions here. In fact, my thoughts were in a smilar place three days ago. And while the announcement of a fourth season (FINALLY!) puts it all into perspective a bit, this does not really change the fact that the crew has been laid off and there has been no update on whether they will be able to return. According to Lindsay Katai, one of the writers of the show, production on book 4 started in fall 2019 and they wrote it before the pandemic (+ it was greenlit seperately from book 3).
And according to Owen Dennis’ one hour comic he recently posted on Twitter, he is currently pitching different projects, i.e. not working on Infinity Train anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, I am as excited for Book 4 as any fan probably, we just should not treat this as “HBO Max listened to the fans and is now going into production of season 4”, rather than an actual already-in-development product being finished up for a release.

The question now is whether a success of Book 4 might actually “convince” HBO/Cartoon network to produce more.

A lof of what Dennis said in this io9 Gizmodo interview and what you said in your video still stands, I think. Assuming that the producers, at that point, were familiar with the outline of season 4 (or however many there were in production at this point), so far they have not renewed it further because of a “‘trepidation over the subject matter,’ a belief that kids might not be able to relate to the show because it’s too mature for them.”

So all that matters is that the streaming numbers keep climbing and that it is watched by people who do not neatly fit into a kids age demographic.

Again, I’m happy about the announced renewal, I’m just afraid that some people might drop out of the activism to renew the show for its complete entirety of eight seasons.

Thanks for the video, thanks for reading and please continue to hold up the flag for this amazing show. 🙂

  2. Coming back to this after the announcement and the trailer for Book 4. It looks really awesome, simultaneously, I am quite sad to hear about the finality of it. Even though we were suspecting it, after the initial announcement but still… There might have been a faint (if unlikely) hope for season 5, but nope! Yes, Owen said on Twitter that “[m]aybe someday we’ll be able to make more, I don’t know, but for the foreseeable future, this is going to be the last season.” We’ll see about that in three to five years+ maybe…

So yeah, this is one of those ‘one crying and one smiling eye’ situations. I for one am going to enjoy the ride while it last.

Your talking points certainly continue to be relevant. 🙂
