Animation Reviews

What I’m Looking Forward to in 2023

2023 is going to be a good year for animation – particularly animated movies. So I’m super excited. Let’s hope they all live up to the hype.

  1. Spider-Man: Across the SpiderVerse

I don’t need to explain this one, do I?

  1. How Do You Live?

Hayao Miyazaki came out of retirement (again) to write and produce this film. It’s based on a 1937 novel about a 15-year-old boy and his relationship with his uncle. How close the adaption will be to the book, who knows?

All I know is that I’m definitely going to cry during this film.

  1. Spy X Family movie

I can’t wait to see what crazy shenanigans my new favorite found family is going to go on.

  1. Nimona

Hopefully, Netflix won’t fuck this up. Their track record with animated shows and movies hasn’t been great recently – especially when those shows have LGBTQ+ characters. But they when they acquired it from Disney (who had canceled it after purchasing Blue Sky Studios) there was a lot of hype.

The graphic novel is really good – so lets hope this film gets the justice it deserves.

Shows:

  1. Buddy Daddies

A knock-off Spy X Family featuring two male assassins who end up taking care of a little girl. No super powers this time – but you know the shippers will be all over this.

  1. Clone High

I have to watch this show’s first season before the revival, but it’s beloved in the cartoon community, so a revival can only be a good thing. (Especially since the cliffhanger the show ended on will actually work really well with a time skip.)

  1. Hazbin Hotel

I know there’s a lot of controversy surrounding the creator of the show, but I’m curious about how this web cartoon is going to work as a full series.

What are some animated shows and movies you’re looking forward to this year? Let me know in the comments.
